"You are going to spent the rest of your life behind bars like the alligator you so callously murdered. "No-civilised member of Rhyl-on-Sea society will ever have to see your face again and you will be whipped daily for the amusement of the guards."

A MENTALLY unstable Rhyl-on-Sea teenager has been jailed indefinitely after feeding an alligator to a pack of rabbits.

19 year old Darren Spanish, of no fixed address, appeared before magistrates at Rhyl on Sea last Sunday charged with causing unnecessary suffering to the reptile.

Spanish, a former mathematics lecturer at Rhyl-on-Sea Community college, denied cruelty to the alligator at the Rhyl-on-Sea Zoo in the town, and two unrelated charges of indecent exposure.

The eight year old alligator, known locally as Bob, was allegedly grabbed from his pen at the zoo and dropped into the carnivorous rabbit pen in the children's enclosure.

Defence solicitor Ken Prestatyn said a social services "vulnerable adult" worker was providing support for Spanish.

Prosecutors allege that the incident was planned well in advance and claim that a small crane used to hoist the alligator from its pen was brought to the zoo by Spanish especially for the purpose.

Speaking in his defence, Spanish said, "It wasn't me. I wasn't there, I was in Manchester and my mates made me do it anyway. It was them, they egged me on and the voices in my head told me the alligator was evil and deserved to die. They wanted me to throw it into the bay."

The court heard how it took Bob hours to die as the slow moving creature was savagely nibbled to death by the fluffy bunnies.

Magistrates took only eight seconds to find Spanish guilty after watching CCTV footage of the incident, subtitled in French. Dr Lord Admiral Sir John Colwyn JP said, "You are going to spent the rest of your life behind bars like the alligator you so callously murdered. "No-civilised member of Rhyl-on-Sea society will ever have to see your face again and you will be whipped daily for the amusement of the guards."

As he was led away, Spanish was heard to whisper that it wasn't fair and that he would be appealing to his mum.
